Beulah is known as the energy capital of North Dakota for good reason. Take a tour of one of the local coal mines – you’ll get to see the mining operation first hand along with the gigantic equipment used to strip away soil to reveal the valuable coal beneath. Then trek over and experience how that coal is used to create both electric and natural gas energy for the entire nation!

Parks

In between your tours, grab a picnic lunch and enjoy one of our many city parks. Beulah boasts a large number of city parks – nearly every neighborhood has a park to enjoy! Memory Park is a beautiful place to enjoy a morning coffee – featuring bright flowers and a fountain – it’s a quiet spot in our bustling downtown. Another gem is Riverside Park, large enough to host your family reunion or outdoor wedding, there is Frisbee golf, horseshoes, a gazebo and restrooms.

Once you’ve settled in, take some time to go exploring. There is so much to do nearby!  Make your base in Beulah and head out into the rolling hills and river breaks of Mercer County for a day of adventure.

Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site

Explore the lives of the Northern Plains Indians on the Upper Missouri. Earthlodge people hunted bison and other game, but were in essence farmers living in villages along the Missouri and its tributaries. The site was a major Native American trade center for hundreds of years prior to becoming an important market place for fur traders after 1750.

Garrison Dam

Garrison Dam

Garrison Dam is an earth-fill embankment dam on the Missouri River near Riverdale, North Dakota, constructed 1947-1953. The Dam created the 3rd largest reservoir in the United States, Lake Sakakawea. Garrison Dam Powerplant consists of 5 turbines with an energy generating capability of approximately 580,000 kilowatts. Walk-in tours of the Dam and Powerhouse are available seasonally June 4-August 1 or by appointment please call 654-7411.

North Country Trail

The North Country National Scenic Trail stretches approximately 4,600 miles from Crown Point in eastern New York to Lake Sakakawea State Park in central North Dakota in the United States. An easy drive from Beulah, here’s your chance to start at the Western trailhead and hike part of this beautiful national trail!
